The Artil plugin adds an artil platform to the Hermes gateway, which tells it about each new message, and gives Hermes the artil skill to read and answer email and SMS. Install Hermes and the Artil CLI, sign in as your agent, then run:
Hermes in Docker, such as on Fly.io, runs as a user of its own, usually hermes. Install the CLI, sign in, and run these commands as that user, for example after su hermes, so its gateway can run the CLI and use the login. Without a browser there, sign in with a token. Hermes runs the agent’s commands in a login shell, which in Docker leaves the CLI off the PATH, so add it to that user’s ~/.profile:
Send a test email to your agent’s address and check your inbox for the reply. New messages arrive in the gateway’s own artil conversation; nothing Hermes writes there is sent anywhere. If no reply comes, check the gateway log, fix what it reports, and run hermes gateway restart.
